MATCH REPORT
Credit to the captains, this was as close a game as we’ve ever had in Sunday League Football. But it was marked with a very controversial last 10 minutes!
Both teams camped men behind the ball when they didn’t have possession and it was extremely difficult to break the defenses down.
But the Reds kept hitting the Blues hard on the break with the electric pace of Elliot causing all sorts of problems who also had his shooting boots on this week.
The Blues soon levelled the game up with some real hardworking goals. It was pretty much neck a neck all the way. With goalkeepers from both sides making saves any goals scored were of high quality.
The team goal of the day was definitely from the Blues who made some lovely 1 2’s with John and Balf, finished expertly from Dim.
It was soon becoming the Elliot and Dim show as these two players were on top form and kept firing some stunning goals for their team. Elliot was shooting from all angles and seemed to find the corners everytime, Dim was finishing most chances he was given. Both players had a quality game.
The Reds clearly had a gameplan trying to mark Balf out of the game. While this kept Balf quiet on the ball, he cleverly kept dragging Reds players over to the left which provided Dim with loads of space on the right. This allowed Dim to run at the Reds and he seemed to beat his man everytime.
A couple of brilliant solo goals from Dim gave the Blues a 1 goal advantage going into the last 10 minutes.
The first controversial moment came when there was a bit of a scramble outside the Reds box. The ball kindly fell for Balf who finished the shot and the Blues thought they had that 2 goal cushion. However Bryan called the shot was in the area and this caused quite a stir.
The goal didn’t stand and during the discussions the Reds scored a quick goal with Elliot spotting Andy miles away from his goal and chipped in to what he thought was a leveller. The Blues claimed a few of their players had stopped playing and the goal was disallowed.
What drama! In the end the result stood at a Blues victory by 1 goal. We could have done with VAR!!
Well played lads, roll on gameweek 2!
