10TH FEB 2019 – GAMEWEEK 4

Welcome to Sunday League Football.

MATCH PREVIEW

Another gameweek and I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to this one!

Ryan and Elliot are the main contenders so far but there are a bunch of lads behind them ready to pounce. Will they continue the fine form or will the pressure of being top get to them?

With each team having a permanent goalkeeper the sides can set up their shape properly and it looks like it going to be a great game.

Let’s get it on!

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

Well this was a bit of a crazy game.

Plenty of goals, saves, fouls, contentious decisions and big moments. This game had a bit of everything apart from real quality football; it was a bit of a dogfight.

The game started off with a goalfest, it seemed every shot was either in the top corner or a deflection for both teams. Elliot & Dim for the Reds scored some beauties and Ian & Balf were also smashing some crackers in.

The Reds then started to dominate possession and create more chances and they kept putting their noses in front and frustrating the Blues.

It looked like it was going to be the same old story with one team running away with it after the Reds built up a 6 goal lead. This was then the game really came to life as the hard tackles and intensity increased. Somehow Martin, Ian and Balf dragged the Blues back into the match and incredibly levelled the score with Alan and Nathan defending well.

The last 5 minutes everyone was suddenly switched on with last ditch tackles, an incredible double save from Bryan and players putting their bodies on the line and trying to gain an advantage with every decision. Nobody could get that winner and in the end it finished honours even.

Will feel like a great point for the Blues but the Reds will feel like this was one that got away. Was some comeback.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Nobody really stood out this week and your votes meant there was unbelievably a five way tie for man of the match.

Ste was solid all game at the back, Martin never stopped running all game and was a nuisance to the Reds, Balf put in a great workmanlike performance to help the Blues gain a draw, and Andy & Bryan both made some decent saves. Each received 2 votes each meaning all five claim man of the match and the bonus 2 points.

The remaining votes went to:

Ian with 1 vote

Dim with 1 vote

KEY STATS

After the bizzare voting results this week the table has really tightened up with only 6 points separating the top 10 players, all to play for!

Our more experienced players Bryan, Tommy and Alan still remain without a win between them. I’m sure they will be eager to rectify this.

As requested by the league members, Josh gets 2 points for giving up his place this week so others can play. Thanks Josh.

3RD FEB 2019 – GAMEWEEK 3

Welcome to Sunday League Football.

MATCH PREVIEW

It’s gameweek 3 and it’s a big week for everyone.

Will Ryan keep top spot or will somebody else make their move this week? It’s still early days so those near the bottom can soon shoot up that table with a win today.

Teams will be split up after the last 2 games so expect a better, close match.

Bring it on!

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

With the teams more evenly matched, this was a much closer game.

It started off with a bang with Ian scoring some absolute screamers and the Blues took the early lead. The Reds had to hold their hands up, they couldn’t do anything about those.

Elliot then came out of nets and instantly made an impact. He linked up with Dim and Danny superbly providing that extra pace needed to split the defence up. The Reds took the lead and mid way through the game it was 6-4.

The game then got really interesting with 2 quick goals from the Blues to level it up. The next 15 mins was end to end stuff and still anyone’s game.

The Reds then upped it a gear and took control with all players chipping in with a goal including a nice volley from Andy. Unfortunately for the Blues, Ian and Balf were the only ones who managed to score, which made a big difference in the final result.

With Ryan, Andy and Ste being pretty solid at the back, Elliot in inspired form in goal, Danny and Dim worked their socks off up front and their hard work paid off and they won the game for the Reds with some excellent skill and finishing.

For Ste, Dim and Andy it was a monkey off their back and finally a first win of the season. For Ryan the fine form continues with 3 out of 3 wins!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Dim was this week’s man of the match with 5 votes. He was a man on a mission this week determined to get that win. He played with flair and skill up front, scoring his fair share of goals and some lovely assists. On top of this his work rate was first class. Well played Dim, 2 bonus points for you!

The remaining votes are:

Ian with 2

Andy with 2

Danny with 1

Ste with 1

Bryan with 1

KEY STATS

Ian continues his fine individual form by picking up votes for the 3rd straight game in a row.

Ryan maintains his 100% record with another win and stays top of the league!

Bryan gets the first goalkeeping vote of the season.

MATCH PREVIEW

2nd week and it’s all to play for. Similar teams to last week except last week’s MOTM Elliot switches across to even it up. Let’s hope for a cracker lads!

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

This was like deja vu to week 1.

It started off another close affair with both teams packing every man behind the ball making it very difficult to score for the opposition.

The Blues eventually got the breakthrough and 30 minutes in it was 2-2 and you really didn’t know which way this was going to go.

Not sure if the Blues legs went, concentration went, or a combination of the two. But the reds took full advantage and seemed to score with every attack and the Blues heads went. Organisation went out of the window and they couldn’t string 2 passes together. When they did get possession the Reds continued to put 6 players behind the ball and their shape was spot on.

The goals flowed for the Reds and they were really enjoying themselves it seemed. It turned into a nightmare for the Blues.

The last half of the game was too easy for the Reds. Defence, solid. Midfield, dominant and attack, clinical. Eventually cruised to an easy win and 3 points in the bag.

Hopefully will not be another walk over next week. Bring it on.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Your 6 votes made Ryan MOTM this week. He had a superb game at the back with hardly anything getting past him. Also had the energy and drive to bomb up and down the line all game and chipped in with a few goals and assists. Great game Ryan well played.

The remaining votes:

Ian with 3

Balf with 1

Tommy with 1

Josh with 1

John with 1

Well played lads

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

The first game of the season was a very tight affair for 30 minutes with both teams putting men behind the ball and making it difficult for the opposition to break down.

The Blues went into an early 3-2 lead and it looked like it was going to be a low scoring intense game. But for some reason the Blues switched off, made several mistakes and were punished by some devastating attacking play by the Reds.

An hour in and it was damage limitation for the Blues, the Reds were having a field day with attacking players Swifty, Elliot, Ian and John Mac running the Blues ragged.

The best moment of the match had to be Marts fantastic turn beating 2 defenders and smashing it past the goalie, superb goal.

Backed up with Nathan and Ryan being solid at the back it was only going to end with a comprehensive victory for the Reds. Bit of a whooping to be honest. They all pick up the 3 points for the win, the Blues just have to hold their hands up; the better team won.

Well played Reds. Blues players will look to improve in gameweek 2. Bring it on.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Man of the match this week was Elliot with 9 votes. He was a class above everyone this week, his acceleration and finishing was unplayable at times. Bonus 2 points well played El 👏

The remaining votes went to Martin with 1, Ian with 1 and John with 2. All played well.
