MATCH PREVIEW

Plenty of time for everyone else to try and catch him with 7 games left!

Welcome back to Ian and the Swifties!

Elliot and Balf have picked the teams have a great game lads! πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

The match tonight was close for the main part, with little between the teams. The blues were quickest off the mark taking an early lead through Jay, who extended the lead to two shortly afterward.

Balf was orchestrating the play for the blues using Bryan as a pivot allowing Pete and Balf to run off him to good effect as well as weighing in with some good finishing himself.

Tony G, Jay and Steve were generally composed at the back. However, Elliott, Ian and Martin started to combine well going forward, Elliott’s pace and control allied to Ian’s composure and Martin’s pace and power started to open up the blues defence, some fine finishing meant that the game was now nip and tuck!

Overall the play of the blues was more balanced and consistent and led to them running out comfortable winners in the end.

However, Balf was nutmegged by a 67year old!! 🀣🀣

MAN OF THE MATCH

Let’s having a cracking game lads πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

This game was a bit of a slow burner. Both teams put 6 men behind the ball when the opposition had possession and with a lot of defenders on show, goals were proving difficult to come by.

The Blues broke the deadlock after 15 minutes and then a few more goals followed. Mike, Andy and John were seeing more of the ball and playing some nice 1-2’s to give their team a nice couple of goals lead. The Reds then got themselves into the game with Balf and Elliot working some lovely interplay.

Both teams then scored a few goals between them and it was a decent, close, tactical match.

In truth, the defences were well on top for both teams, in particular Tony G, Ste and Pete for the Reds.

Then the Blues had a mad 15 minutes which ultimately cost them the game. The Blues were being forced to pass around their defence with Elliot and Balf pressing high, then the mistakes started to flow. The Blues gave sloppy passes away, got caught taking too long in possession and were just making wrong decisions. Elliot and Balf took full advantage with some lethal finishing. Throw in the mix an own goal from Andy and the Reds found themselves 6 goals ahead. The Blues heads dropped and were stunned.

The Reds then put men behind the ball again and you could see they were trying to manage the game and see it out. This allowed the Blues to pull a few back with some tenacious play, but it was too little too late. The Reds take home the spoils and just about deserved it with some solid play throughout their team. Ultimately too many mistakes cost a frustrated Blues. Nevertheless another interesting game! Well played lads.

MAN OF THE MATCH

A close one this week but Elliot just takes it with 4 votes!

Elliot was quick to capitalise on the mistakes with some excellent finising again and his high pressing caused problems for the opposition. Another good performance which takes him top of the league, well played Elliot!

Mike and Andy are the captains this week see below for teams. Lets have another great game lads! See you there!

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

Last weeks was a cracking match, game 2 was also another fantastic game!

El and Tony in midfield lit the opening 20 minutes up with some unplayable football supported by John up top. Intricate passing and lightning quick movement on and off the ball meant the Blues stormed to a 4 goal lead and deservedly so. Andy and Nathan were sniffing out all the attacks from the Reds and it was completely one sided.

The Reds shuffled their positions around and this seemed to help them get a foothold in the game. Dim, Balf and Mike were starting to see more of the ball and were creating chances. Their patient play soon paid off as the goals then started to come, their tails were up and right back in the game.

The 2nd half was quite an evenly matched affair. The Reds had more of the possession and they really had to work hard for their goals. Dim and Balf kept finding the bottom corners with some great finishing. But as soon as they scored the Blues seemed to hit them back straight away, with either a quick breakaway, or the Blues capitalising on sloppy play from the Reds.

The most crucial part of the match then happened which decided it. Elliot and Tony caught a 2nd wind of devastating form when they had 4 chances in 10 minutes and finished every single one off. Superb finishing.

The Blues now had what looked like a comfortable 5 goal lead.

The Blues made the mistake of sitting really deep and the Reds came charging forward. They kept patiently working the ball around and Dim was in fine form, scoring some wonderful goals. The Reds got within 1 goal.

Balf then had a one on one with Joel with a few minutes left, Joel pulled off a massive save to keep the Blues in front. Huge moment.

The Blues were hanging on in truth but stayed in front the whole game and managed to win by 1 goal. Another great game lads well played everyone!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Elliot was this weeks MOTM with 6 votes. He stuck to doing what he does best, getting the ball in attacking areas and running at defenders, capitalising on mistakes and scoring some great goals. Massive confidence boost for him and great to see him back well played El!

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

This game was full of quality and drama, probably one of the best games the league has seen.

The Blues got off to an incredible start scoring 4 goals in 15 minutes without the Reds having a sniff. It looked like it was going to be a walk over. Chappo and Mike were causing havoc in attack, Ryan and Adam were flying up and down the wings and the Reds couldn’t live with them. 4 nil up and it could have been more. The Blues were playing some quality stuff.

The Reds soon got their act together and started looking like a team. Balf was put up front with Elliot, Martin and Ian trying to feed off him. With some good finishing the Reds stared got right back into the game.

This game was turning into a classic, both teams were working the ball really well and playing some great football. The defending was also good from both teams and goals were hard to come by.

As the Blues got more tired, the Reds starting getting more on top and the Blues were having to make last ditch tackles, blocks and saves to keep themselves in the game. The Reds finally got themselves in front by a single goal with 10 minutes to go.

The Reds backed off and the Blues got themselves level with another quality goal from Chappo and set up for a fantastic finale.

Then came the biggest moment of the game. Balf found himself in a bit of space and had the opportunity to shoot but Martin had made a lung busting run to support him, Balf unselfishly squared the ball to Martin who from 10 yards had an open goal to win it for the Reds. Martin hit the ball as hard as he could and unfortunately blazed the ball over.

You know what happens next, the Blues went up the other side of the pitch and scored the winner in dramatic fashion.

Fantastic game lads, a draw perhaps may have been a fair result, but the Blues just edged it in the big moments and take home the points! Intense start to the season!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Andy is the first MOTM of the season with 5 votes. Made some crucial blocks and tackles in defence and also made a big assist towards the end of the game.

MATCH REPORT

Well looking at the the team sheet this one look like it was going to be a great finale to season 3.

Well looks can be deceiving! The blues from the outset dominated the game, with great defending and unstoppable attacking. The blues looked like a well oiled machine.
The reds on the other hand were like a clapped out old robin reliant! They just couldn’t seem to catch a break.

It was wave after wave of attack from the blues who finished absolutely everything.
Despite the unbreakable defence the reds managed to pull a few goals back at the end but It just wasn’t enough.

The blues took the well deserved win by 9 goals and finished the season on a high.

Well done blue team to what was one of the best team performances of the season.

MATCH PREVIEW

After a few weeks off it’s good to be back playing footy for the last 2 games of an exciting season!

Alan and Ian lead the pack and are this week’s captains. Both know a win today is massive!

Let’s have a great game lads, see teams below! See you there πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

After a few weeks of hit and miss, this seemed to be reflected in the game. The quality was probably average at best and by no means a classic.

However the Reds started the game off in blistering fashion by finishing virtually every chance they had. Ian, Martin and Balf kept linking up beautifully and ran into a 5-0 lead. With Pete and Ste solid in defence and Alan W making supporting runs from the back, the Blues were really struggling to get out of their own half for 20 minutes.

When the Blues did get a rare opportunity, they couldn’t finish with a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing. It has to be said Pete was outstanding at the back and seemed to block, jockey or intercept every attack from the Blues.

With the game so one sided a change was made with Tommy switching to the Reds and Ste coming to the Blues.

With Ste now making the Blues more solid at the back, this allowed the Blues attacking players to push up more and the chances started coming. However they still couldn’t finish and the Reds continued to score and went 8-0 up.

Credit to the Blues, they kept pushing and pushing despite a massive uphill task. Eventually they got that goal through a lovely finish from Dim and the confidence definitely increased with the breakthrough. The Reds were guilty of maybe being a bit complacent with such a big lead, a few more goals came from the Blues and the deficit was reduced to 4 goals.

The Blues tails were up and sniffing a miracle comeback result with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately for them the Reds started to manage the game better and every time the Blues scored, the Reds would hit them straight back to keep them at arms length.

The Reds definitely deserved the win this week after such a strong start, however the Blues walked away with some pride restored after a spirited 2nd half. Roll on next week!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Pete was this weeks MOTM with 7 votes. He doesn’t normally play in defence, but he showed his football intelligence with just being in the right place at the right time throughout the game. As well as defending brilliantly he started off the Reds attacks with classy distribution. Was the only contender for MOTM this week well played Pete! πŸ‘

The remaining votes went to:

Martin with 1

Dim with 1

Alan W with 1

Ste with 1

KEY STATS

Alan remains top by a point, however If Ian makes an appearance next week he will be the champion of season 3 as Alan is away. A loss would mean level points with Alan but due to having more votes he would finish 1st.

Ian will want that victory next week though as it will mean he matches previous champions Ryan and Jons record of winning 7 games in a season!

MATCH PREVIEW

A few regulars missing this week as they are sunning it up on holidays but the show must go on as they say!We welcome John Jr, Jay and Luke to the game and it looks set to be a belter.Lots of attacking talent on display today so expect lots of goals and decent play.Teams below, let’s have a cracker lads! πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

Attacking play was on full display this week. The Blues started off the more effective team playing 3 at the back and letting Elliot and Tony cause havoc up top.

The Reds were giving them all kinds of space and Elliot and Tony scored goal after goal to give them a 4 goal lead. With Jay bombing up and down the wing for the Blues suppirting the front 2 it looked like it was going to be a comfortable win for the Blues. John (jr) was isolated up front for the Reds and was struggling to get the service or support. The Reds had to change something or were heading for a beating.

A quick drinks break gave time for the Reds to regroup and rethink their tactics for the 2nd half. They did change something. John (jr) was brought back into the middle of the park and given a free reign to play all over. Also the Reds started to press the Blues defence and this paid off straight away.

The Blues were pressured into making mistakes at the back due to the pressing and in the space of 10 minutes conceded 4 goals in a row. John jr punished them every single time with some lethal finishing.

The Blues attackers found that their space had been limited and were getting marked out of the game. The experienced defending of Alan, Ryan and Luke was starting to show. This was now a proper game.

A few goals for each side kept the game close, but in the final 15 minutes the Reds took control. John Jr was proving the difference as he found himself on the ball quite often. His pace was difficult to live with and with Dim and John supporting scoring some crucial goals at the end, the game was settled.

The Blues didn’t have an answer for the tactical change made by the Reds at half time and they leave with the 3 points.

Another really good game lads roll on next week!

MAN OF THE MATCH

John (Jr) was this weeks MOTM with 8 votes. His 2nd half performance was outstanding capitalising on the Blues mistakes with some deadly finishing. His pace and skill was on display in full flow and changed the game for the Reds. Great game well played!

The remaining votes went to:

John M (Senior) with 2

Alan with 1

KEY STATS

Welcome to Sunday League Football.

MATCH PREVIEW

After a week off it’s good to get back to playing some footy with the lads!

No set keepers this week so expect to see goals galore!

Alan still holds top spot despite the defeat in the last game, but Ian is hot on his heels and will look to chase him down with a win on gameweek 7!

They are the captains see teams below, may the best team win πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

On paper the general consensus was the Blues looked like they had the stronger individuals in their team but the Reds slightly more balanced.

This is kind of how the match played out. The Blues started the stronger team with blistering runs from the front 3 which the Reds simply weren’t tracking and the Blues punished them. They stormed to a 3-0 lead and looked the stronger team.

The Reds kept calm though and kept going through their phases of knocking the ball around and eventually their patience paid off. The gaps started to appear and with John working the channels up front Ian and Balf started to find him and feed off him. The goals came and the Reds found themselves up with a healthy lead.

The Reds were their own worst enemy at times letting in a couple of sloppy goals through not marking their men properly and letting the Blues back into it.

This pattern followed for the rest of the game. The Reds would get a couple in front through some fantastic team play and brilliant finishing. The Blues would respond with some quick fire goals and get right back into the game. Notably Martin with a very creative goal assisting himself off the wall.

The difference between the 2 teams seemed to be the Reds were slightly more organised and knew where each man was playing. At times out of frustration the Blues would not be 100% sure of where the man was positioned which left some gaps. The Reds won by a single goal and I think were the better “team” and deserved their win. Another close game well played lads!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Bryan is this week’s MOTM with 4 votes. He played the utility man brilliantly playing well in all positions. He slotted in defence and made good blocks, tackles and surging runs. Up front he made himself available and scored some super goals from tight angles at crucial moments. Also pulled off some decent saves in goal. Had a great game well played Bryan!

The remaining votes went to:

Ian with 3

John M with 3

Andy with 1

Looks like it’s going to be another great game lads see you there! πŸ‘Š

TEAMS

MATCH REPORT

The first 20 minutes in the game was extremely tight. The defences were on top and goals were hard to come by. The game got into a pattern at 3 all where the Blues had the majority of the possession and the Reds would break at pace.

The Blues soon found their form with Balf and Ian linking up well with Martin and Ryan providing that 3rd man in attack with runs from defence. Tommy was starting off all attacks from his own half and with a couple of megs the Blues were 4 goals up and in control.

Alan and Ste for the Reds were barking orders from the back asking for more aggression and tackles. Their teammates responded and started to increase their intensity and with Elliot and Dim breaking at pace and scoring some super goals they got themselves level with 15 minutes to go.

The Blues felt they had control for most of the game but the equaliser seemed to be the kick up the backside required for them to get out of their comfort zone. They upped it a gear for the last 15 minutes and scored some wonderful team goals. The Reds couldnt live with the wave of attacks and conceded 4 goals to lose the game by a margain.

Was a good game but the Blues just had that extra bit of quality when it counted. Well played lads!

MAN OF THE MATCH

Tommy is this weeks man of the match with 6 votes. He had one of his best games in recent times with a great first touch everytime and never gave the ball away. Made some wonderful through balls and also made some crucial tackles. Great performance Tommy well played!
